Michael Henderson is one of Australasia's foremost experts in the area of amplifying workplace culture; in fact he is obsessed with it! As a Corporate Anthropologist for Values At Work Ltd he has spent the last 17 years focusing on improving organisations ability to understand and work with their culture to improve their employment brand work experience and business performance.
In this time Michael has worked with organisations from all sectors ranging from government departments, the military, churches, corporates, small and medium sized businesses and sports teams. Possessing a degree in Anthropology and qualified in Axiology (the science a human values) means that Michael has a strong grounding in social science ensures that his work is practical, evidence based and always focused on performance. He is acknowledged in his own field as a pioneer. In fact his concepts and research are so innovative and ground breaking that his three books on the impact ad benefits of mastering company culture and human values are best sellers. His immense expertise has ensured Michael is the guest lecturer on company culture at Auckland University Business School.
Michael has regularly been described as a powerful and confronting speaker as his ideas on culture are often in direct contradiction to the way most organisations think. He suggests that most organisations are extremely naive about the power and influence of their culture, and that this naivety is costing organisations more than they realise. Michael suggests a misaligned culture has significant outcomes including the fact it helps your competitors, jeopardizes your strategies, heavily influences staff moral and your ability to attract and retain talent, and has a direct impact of which all show up on the bottom line. It is this business focus for culture that Michael brings to the topic of culture that has seen him work with companies such as Coca Cola, Vodafone, Canon, Burger King, Lion Nathan and more.
Michael has been described as having an amazing ability to take a complex message and ideas and make it easy to understand and apply. One of his key messages is that most companies get culture wrong is because they don’t have a Culture Plan. They have a business plan or strategic and marketing plan but no plan for the company culture?
In times of a tight labour market, the rise of the employment brand, shifting generational trends, multi-culturalism globalization, leadership vacuums increasing competition, and increasing stress levels and struggles with work life balance having no culture plan is a business liability that even the most skeptical Chief Financial Officer can no longer afford to ignore.
